FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Hernia occurs when an organ, usually in the abdomen region, pushes out the muscular tissues that usually hold it.

For instance, the intestine may bulge out of the abdominal wall.

No, hernias can also take place in any region between your chest and hips. Some cases also occur in upper thighs.

Some of the common reasons include:

  • Aging
  • Lifting heavy weights
  • Being overweight
  • Pregnancy
  • Damage from an injury or surgery
  • Chronic coughing
  • Chronic constipation
  • You may notice a bulge or a lump in the affected area
  • You may feel pain when you are standing up or coughing
  • In some types of hernia, you may feel chest pain or heartburn. You may also experience trouble while swallowing.
  • You may have nausea, vomiting, fever and sharp pain if the hernia becomes worse.
  • In some cases. Hernia may have no symptoms

Hernia doesn’t go away on its own. The pain can worsen over a period of time. In fact, an untreated hernia can cause severe health complications.

While medical care can reduce the pain for some time, surgery is the only effective option.

  • Epigastric: You may feel pressure in the abdomen region when you cough, laugh or bend to pass stool.
  • Femoral: You may feel a lump in the groin region. Usually affects women.
  • Incisional: Affects the middle of the stomach. Usually occurs after stomach surgery.
  • Inguinal: Occurs when the intestine bulges out in the abdomen region. Usually affects men.
  • Hiatal: If your stomach bulges out of the diaphragm. The diaphragm separates your lungs from other abdominal organs.
  • Umbilical: This occurs if the tissues break out from the belly button region.

The traditional surgery can be risky because it requires the doctor to cut up almost 10cm of a patient’s body.

However, our doctor is a laparoscopic specialist, meaning he will make tiny cuts of less than 3.5 mm in the problem area and insert a camera called laparoscope into it so that the doctor can see which hernia sac is defected and needs to be replaced by a prosthetic mesh.

The small cuts are then stitched up, which dissolve on their own in a few days.

The entire procedure takes about 30-45 minutes and is pain-free.

Typically, there is soreness for 1-2 days after the surgery. That’s normal. It’s better than living with your hernia pain or the 15- to 20-day postoperative pain you may experience if you choose the older, more traditional, method to get rid of hernia.

Of course. In fact, our medical team will stay in regular touch with you. They will keep monitoring your health over the phone.

Our doctor will also evaluate you for free, around 10-14 days after the treatment.

However, if it is caused by a bacterial or fungal infection, you may need to take a course of antibiotics.
